Questions about CUBRETON

No, not all products are made entirely from recycled materials. However, we are constantly striving to increase the proportion of recycled materials in our products to the maximum—ideally 100%!

When our brand was launched, we decided that all profits would be used for social engagement. The association is responsible for distributing these profits and connecting with other organizations and initiatives. Interested in getting involved? C/D/B/S describes everything that is important to us – in just four letters! On the one hand, it stands for the activities that drive us every day and for which we want to create products: camping, dogs, bicycling, and surfing. On the other hand, it stands for Choose diversity – be sustainable. A clear statement about how we want to work and live. We are convinced that it is more important than ever to take a stand and show that there is also a different opinion in the middle of society.

CUBRETON started as an experiment, an idea conceived by founder Philipp Baldermann. It is intended to serve as a counterpoint to purely capitalist economic orientation and prove that companies can do both: contribute beyond mere capital and initiate social change. Post-capitalism, social enterprise, or simply a German family business—someone will find a name for it, but that’s not important to us. What is important is that we do not make ourselves richer and fatter, but use the profits to drive change. That is why we donate 100% of all profits to promote two things. On the one hand, valuable and honest relationships between people and, on the other hand, deep experiences with nature. We are convinced that both contribute to us living in a better world tomorrow than we do today. It all starts with people who want to make a difference together and with an honest and deep connection to our planet. The rest will follow – we are convinced of that!

The name CUBRETON pays homage to the founder’s favorite surfing spot. For years, Philipp and his family have been traveling by camper van to the small port town of Capbreton on the French Atlantic coast, just before the Spanish border. To surf, breathe deeply, and simply do nothing. The place has something magical about it, combining surf hang-loose, tradition, and the feeling of being close to nature. Where the European continent ends and the next mainland is America.

And there is another special feature about this place. Capbreton is where “Le Gouf de Capbreton” begins – an underwater canyon that stretches over 270 km and is up to 4,500 m deep, disappearing into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Santander. A place teeming with biodiversity, pure life, and the unknown. And a place that has existed for hundreds of millions of years and is worth protecting, just like our entire planet. For us, it is the inspiration behind “Choose Diversity – Be Sustainable.”
